The South Australian Mines Emergency Response Competition showcased essential life-saving skills, with SIMEC Mining taking home the overall trophy.
Held over the weekend of October 18-20, 2024, in Roxby Downs, South Australia, the event brought together emergency response teams from South Australia, New South Wales, and New Zealand. These skilled professionals faced realistic emergency scenarios, demonstrating their preparedness and expertise.
This year's competition attracted a large crowd and featured one of South Australia's biggest public displays of mining equipment. Over two action-packed days, nine teams competed from sites such as Cadia Valley, Carrapateena, Jacinth Ambrosia, Kanmantoo Copper, Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill, SIMEC Whyalla, CSA Mine, and Oceana Gold NZ; marking our largest event in SAMERC's 15-year history.
